Are we united

Illustration:

A man had a family of sons who were daily quarrelling. The man tried to settle their disputes but proved unavailing. One day he decided to show them a practical illustration about evils of disunity. He gave them bundle of sticks to break. Each one tried but was unable. He repeated the illustration by giving each a stick to break. Each broke his stick without pain. Then he told them, “My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this bundle, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks.”

Unity is the word to be emphasized in a world where each one wants to live for himself.

By definition unity means, “An undivided or unbroken completeness or totality with nothing wanting or the quality of being united into one.” Word Web Dictionary. The Bible says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1)

The Bible does not encourage individualism in God’s church. Heaven’s prescription is unity. The Bible says, it is good and pleasant. The opposite is disunity which pains God’s church.

Dr. Busia said, “Together we stand, divided we fall.” The only for a group to progress harmoniously is through unity.

Nature teaches us the need for unity.

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many; they form one body.” (I Corinthians 12:12 NIV).

The human body is the most complex in all of God’s creation. The whole body is sophisticatedly knitted together to have a living soul. From cell – tissue – muscle – organ – system – human body. Though each body part has an “independent function,” each is dependent upon the other. Any external force to destroy its unity pains the entire body.

For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (Romans 12:4-5).

: Geese fly in V formation. Any person who has observed will get amazed at the intelligent design as they flew in the sky. But is it for flight display? Or there’s a big secret behind?

Scientists have discovered why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a V formation the whole flock ads at lest 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone, and quickly get back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Finally, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by a shot and falls out, two geese fall out of formation and follow him down to help and protect him. They sty with him until he is either able to fly, or until he is dead and then they launch out on their own or with another formation to catch up with their original group. – James S. Hewett, ed. Illustrations unlimited, p.125-6.Disunity is not the word

“And Jesus…said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” (Matthew 12:25)

Illustration: The snake is a wise and frightful creature. A lot of people fear snakes. It has fatal venom which makes it a dangerous reptile. But a snake is easily killed. This is because it walks alone. Snakes don’t move in groups. Just imagine if ten snakes enter this church house? It will be difficult to stand them. But if one, all of us will rush to kill it. So applies when we neglect the power of unity. We shall easily fall before our enemies.

“A boat doesn’t go forward if everyone is rowing his own way.” – African proverb

Friends our time on earth is too short to waste it hating one another. The mission of Christ is so great that one person cannot do it. Our enemies are greater that we cannot overcome them without being united. A divided church can never fulfill the work of Christ. Never and never and never and ever can it here. Let us all get involved. Let us stay united and we shall conquer the world.
